An average wednesday morning... UN, Grand Central and Bronx Zoo
I have to admit, the last days I was lazy about blogging. However, I will change that now ;)
This morning, I got up at the totally-student-unfriendly time of 7 a.m. - yeah I got used to that time system by now and even understand that 12a.m. is midnight - weird right?!? The reason - my MRI. My knee is better so far, I can walk without brace and crunch but it's still not back to normal. Tomorrow I will hopefully know more!
Anyway, after having had a nap inside the MRI tube, I thought what can I do before my first mid-term. I checked the map and made the following plan:
- United Nations
- Grand Central
- Short walk through Bronx Zoo (as wednesday is donation day = free admission)
So there I go, happy about being able to walk almost normally by now!
UN wasn't so impressive - a big building and as the sky was grey, the weather bad and rainy not even the flags flew. Pictures maybe another time when I will also go inside. We have an IPED event to go there at the beginning of November (where we already had to send our data there for security clearance....)
Grand Central
The moment I walked inside this great building reminded me of several movies/clips where I have seen it... the best one:
Freeze New York
Well.. unfortunately it didn't happen that time, but it is an impressive hall. And as I say maybe people (really many!) I added another To Do on my NY-To do list: Ride the subway during rush hour (I will do this when I have time to enjoy busy times :) )
I have been told already at the very beginning of the semester that Wednesday is the free admission day. However, I didn't had time nor muse so far to go there. Looking at the map, it poses a big diversity. From Wild Asia to Congo Gorilla Forest, World of Reptiles to Bison Range, and so on.. short: a lot! However, I had only about 30 minutes to be in time for breakfast price at the restaurant
I came in early (10am). The only other visitors were school classes with a lot of motivation (of course, children and wild animals... best combination ^^). However, it seems like most of these wild animals have become city animals in one attitude... being fair weather animals. As I already mentioned, it wasn't such a nice day - as you know, I don't care - and I say almost no animals. Furthermore it was wednesday morning, so the special attracting have been closed as well like the Somba Village or some crazy spider thing... However the only animals I saw were animals who really might not care about bad&cold weather: A lazy polar bear and a proud sea lion!
P.S.: I also saw an infinite number of squirrels as everywhere in New York :).
