Improvising at National Comedy Theater

Austrian Night Out... the 4-headed Austrian Fulbrighter-connection MPDB (whatever this means ^^) walked to the National Comedy Theater. From the outside it was not very impressive. Neither from the inside. 5 minute due the beginning of the show, we arrived as first. We were worried to be alone. Even more worried as we were told that the audience is asked to take part in the play. That seemed to all of us as valuable reason to get a glass of wine to make it more enjoyable ;).

However, a few minutes later, we weren't alone anymore and the show started. About 20 Impro2.JPGpeople were sitting in there and it was a Show battle between the "Staten Island ferry's" and the "Brooklyn Queens" - nice idea! The performed various improvising theater games with suggestions and keywords taken from the audience. Also one of us had the pleasure to participate in the show!

Two favorites:

1.) Text-and-play

The audience was asked to provide a cell phone-message stream. They  Brooklyn Queens played in "Thailand" (destination of your dreams) and one was only using texts from the mobile. By the time "we got a new home" it became exciting for the couple, the message "it's on her name" warmed it totally up and the message "I got a baby and would like to name him after you" made it perfect ;)Impro3.JPG

2.) Don't say

The actors asked the performance for a specific job/situation/.... One was first "date", so they were asked to say things, you should never say on your first date. The obvious, but very good acted answer: "I want to marry you"

And so on, there were multiple plays but the memories are far to weak if you keep on laughing. Short, I really enjoyed it!
